Last week, Central Valley Meat Company, California's largest beef producer, announced that it had entered into a purchase agreement with Cargill Meat Solutions to purchase their beef processing facility in Fresno, California.
Back in 2019, Central Valley Meat Company solidified itself as a leader in the California beef industry when it acquired Harris Ranch Beef, which operated the state's largest feedlot in the Central Valley of California.
Under Cargill, the Fresno processing facility employed nearly 1,000 people. According to a statement from Central Valley Meat Company, Cargill employees will have the opportunity to "explore roles" within Central Valley Meat, and "both companies are committed to retaining as many employees as possible".
"Our decision to acquire the Cargill Meat Solutions beef processing facility in Fresno, California aligns with our long-term vision of strengthening our offerings to better serve the needs of our customers," said Brain Coelho, CEO and Owner of Central Valley Meat. "We're excited to work alongside cattle producers in the state and region to continue delivering quality beef products for our customers and consumers."
The sale of the Fresno facility comes less than a month after Cargill sold eight grain facilities in the Midwest to its competitor CHS.
