Derek Jeter Joins Meati Foods™ as Investor and Advisor

Derek Jeter, a legendary MLB Hall of Famer, investor, and entrepreneur, has made a significant investment in Meati Foods™, a company that produces, animal-free meat made from mushroom roots. In addition to his investment, Jeter will also serve as an advisor to the company.

“When it came to considering an investment in this industry, I had three main priorities in evaluating the food: nutrition, sustainability, and taste,” said Jeter. “Meati certainly delivers, with great quality steaks and cutlets and an institutional emphasis on high nutritional value and sustainable practices. As we look to the future, the choices we make and the impact we leave are critical, and I appreciate the way Meati has dedicated efforts to making a real difference.”

Jeter has made a few other investments in food and beverage companies since his retirement from baseball. They include medically tailored meal delivery service Performance Kitchen, botanic spirits and self-care product company Amass, and rapid-aging spirits startup Bespoken.

Meati President and COO Scott Tassani said Jeter’s investment is a “huge validation” of the company’s food.

Meati Foods, founded in 2017, is on a mission to transform the food system into one that is more delicious, nutritious, equitable, and sustainable. Their debut product line, Eat Meati™, offers plant-based cutlets and steaks made from mushroom roots. This innovative protein source is cultivated using a modernized version of ancient and natural processes that have helped preserve Earth’s ecosystems for millennia. The company plans to expand its omnichannel footprint across the U.S. later this year.
