The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced on 09/21/2023 elgiable dairy producers will be receiving a second round of payments through the Organic Dairy Marketing Assistance Program (ODMAP), providing an additional $5 million to help dairy producers with the many challenges in the organic dairy industry, including market volatility, increased input and transportation expenses, and the instability of feed supply and prices, has been a priority.

The USDA's Farm Service Agency (FSA) has disbursed an initial round of $15 million in payments to eligible dairy producers, resulting in a total disbursement of $20 million under the Organic Dairy Margin Protection (ODMAP) program.

“This program is critical to keeping small, organic dairies sustainable as they continue to weather a combination of challenges outside of their control,” said FSA Administrator Zach Ducheneaux. “In total, we’re providing $20 million to give organic dairy producers additional economic support to stay in operation until markets return to more favorable conditions.”

ODMAP applications were open from May 24 until August 11. Eligible producers for ODMAP include; certified organic dairy farms that produce milk from cows, goats, and sheep. The second ODMAP payment will be made automatically, so participating producers do not need to initiate any further steps!
