According to the August Pacific Region Milk Production Report sent out by the USDA | NASS, milk production during the month of August totaled 3.37 billion pounds, up 2.0 percent from August 2023 and up 1.8 percent from July 2024. The total number of milk cows on farms in California was 1.71 million head, down 5,000 from August 2023 and unchanged from July 2024. Total production per cow in California averaged 1,975 pounds, up 45 pounds from August 2023 and up 35 pounds from July 2024.
